Spider
Veins are small, yet noticeable, clusters of red or blue veins near the surface
of the skin commonly on the legs and face and may be spider-shaped, branch-shaped,
or appear as thin, short jagged lines. As people age, more leg veins seem to appear.
The three primary causes of spider veins are: heredity, hormonal
shifts during pregnancy and prolonged sitting or standing. Other less common causes
of spider veins include excess sun exposure, chronic constipation, certain medications
and birth control pills, weight gain, and wearing high-heeled shoes or tight clothing.
Varicose Veins are blood vessels which have become
dilated, twisted, and swollen. Although they can occur anywhere in the body, they
primarily affect the legs and feet. Millions of Americans, primarily women between
the ages of 30 and 70, suffer from this unsightly and frequently painful vascular
disorder.
Varicose veins form when blood vessels become weak
and blood can no longer flow easily against gravity. The end result is usually
bulging veins and leg pain.
There are a number of factors
that seem to contribute to poor blood vessel functioning, including trauma, standing
or sitting for long periods of time heredity, hormonal shifts during pregnancy
and obesity.
